Critics’ Take On Shahrukh Khan’s Performance In Chak De India

Hindustantimes

“Shah Rukh Khan is outstanding – it’s a performance that is comparable and at points even more internalised than the one in Swades. He carries the proverbial burden of the project on his shoulders. Intense and steel-like, he stays in character throughout, shunning any traces of glamour.”

“This is also a return to glory for Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar doing excellently as he tackles a cast with (almost) entirely deplorable acting chops and makes you believe. Director Shimit Amin shoves a hockey stick into the actor’s hand, and — fitter than he’s looked in years — Khan flies across cinematic AstroTurf, and shines.

Khan, of course, is King. This is a bravura performance, a gritty drive by an actor who clearly has sport in his blood. The fit of Shah Rukh as a hockey coach — inspiring, canny, frustrated, helpless and profoundly hopeful — is so naturally perfect that it’s a wonder he hasn’t done a sports film before. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him visibly relish a role like this, and while he has to mouth some clunky dialogue, Khan is simply super.”

“No matter what SRK does… he does it with outright passion, without any inhibitions or fears and that is what makes him, his roles and films simply brilliant. Chak De India is an apt example of this trait of Shah Rukh’s. It is the mere presence of this actor in a film which makes the difference. He raises a good film to a completely different height with his immense ability to get into the skin of the character.

His heart-rending portrayal of Kabir Khan, a disgraced Hockey player who is wrongly tagged as ‘gaddar’ (disloyal) and his struggle to reclaim his lost honour touches your heart. How he does that is the story of Chak De India.

Shah Rukh acts and looks absolutely stunning. The lean-stubble look works big time here. Also his understated, calm and composed demeanour as Kabir… SRK has never been so sexy!”

“If Shah Rukh the star, pulled you to the cinema hall, it’s Shah Rukh the actor, who is gonna keep you gripped.

His over dose in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna that made him fall flat, is no where to be seen. Instead the man stands firm, stands tall and rises gracefully. The director has never tried to glorify the character Kabir. And SRK reflects that aptly. He was there for his own reason and was guided by his own reason.

So even if you’re a non-SRK fan, you gotta go ‘n see the guy perform. And if you still remain unconvinced, just tell me one actor who would have dared to risk a script which has no usual B-masala. The man knows his job and understands his strength!”

“Shah Rukh Khan is exceptional. He is not your typical SRK in this one. Right from the look he carries in his eyes to his body language to the sarcasm laid dialogues he mouths, he delivers a knockout performance.”

Idlebrain

Shahrukh Khan did the role of a brilliant coachwhose respect is battered by the misconception and the media. He is exceptional as an inspiring and tough coach. The actor in Shahrukh dominates the star in this film. It is nice to see Shahrukh Khan doing purposeful films like Swadesh and Chak De India once in a while.”

Indiafm

“SRK is the soul of CHAK DE INDIA. What you see on screen would be half of what it is without this matchless actor. He makes you feel what you are supposed to feel. A performance that’s sure to go down as one of his finest works so far.”

Businessofcinema

“Khan’s smile and emotional dialogues, coupled with his usual performance leaves you satisfied. He still makes you teary eyed and convinced, but this is not his best.”

Glamsham

Shah Rukh Khan carries off the film effortlessly on his well worked-out shoulders, damning, and sometimes pushing his wards against the wall with his grueling training techniques.

Filmfare

SRK is dependable as always; only he can lend such credibility and dignity to his role. His pep-talk and occasional jabs at cricket are typical SRK.
